Crested Butte ski area features one of the longest runs in North America which is 2.6 miles long. With more double-black diamond terrain than any other resort in Colorado, Crested Butte has for years arranged the U.S. Extreme , X-Games and Snowboard Championships. The town of Crested Butte has a Skiing Championship Nordic center which sports an ice skating rink as well as dozens of cross-country skiing trails. Crested Butte receives an average snowfall of 25 feet per year across approximately 1,160 skiable acres

Crested Butte is linked with one of the most extensive cross-country networks in Colorado. About 70 km. of Nordic tracks begin a few yards from the Nordic Center. The center also has an outdoor skating rink and sledding hill for apres-Nordic activity.

Summer Attractions in Crested Butte
Crested Butte is a popular destination all year round, and is rumored to have been the birthplace of mountain biking. The Mountain Bike Hall of Fame is located here and the town is host to several annual "bike-a-thons." Other popular activities in Crested Butte are hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, whitewater rafting, kayaking, 4-wheeling, golf and fishing. Some of the largest trouts are claimed to be caught here. There is excellent fishing in Slate and Taylor Rivers and the Blue Reservoir.

The 580-acre ,18-hole "Crested Butte" course at the The Club at Crested Butte in Crested Butte, Colorado features 7,208 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72 . The course rating is 73.0 and it has a slope rating of 135 on Blue grass. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, ASGCA, the Crested Butte golf course opened in 1984. RJ Tessier manages the course as the General Manager.

The town of Crested Butte is quaint and small covering just under 1 mile square. It's elevation is 8,885 above sea level. Once upon a time, the town was known for coal. All of which closed down many decades ago. The Ute Indians used the Crested Butte area as a summer camp, following elk, big game and beaver.

Crested Butte hosts a number of annual events and festivals every year. These include Torchlight, Winger Carnival, Butte Bash College Ski Week and Mardis Gras during the winter; Extreme Board Fest (skiiing) Slushuck and Flaushink during spring; the Crested Butte Bike Week, Crested Butte Music Festival, Crested Butte International Film Festival, 4th of July, the Crested Butte Wildflower Festival, Aspenglow Concert Series, Festival of the Arts, and Ball Bash during summer; and Fall Fest, Vintok and people's Fair during the fall.

Crested Butte is popular with Hollywood. The town was the setting and main filming location for the hit Disney movie, Snowball Express starring Dean Jones and Harry Morgan. It's the birthplace and hometown of MTV's Heidi Montag (The Hills) .James Cameron's blockbuster movie Avatar has tangible parallels to Crested Butte with regards to both mining and environmental issues. The individual responsible for the fight agains the proposed molybdenum mine on Mount Emmons in the late 1970's, former mayor W. Mitchell is wheelchair-bound just like the protagonist in Cameron's film. James Cameron spends a lot of time at his wife Suzy Amis's cabin in Crested Butte. Alien vs. Predator: Requiem was set in this town, too. You can actually see the town name on the bus in which Dallas Howard arrives in the beginning sequence of the hit movie.
